Vines cultivated
The wine-growers of Schaffhausen quickly realised the interest in cultivating red vines to satisfy the growing demand. The small surface of the vineyard allowed for a quick change of the vines. Previously known for its white wines, Schaffhausen now is famous for its red ones. More than 80 % of the vineyard are cultivated with Pinot Noir. The balance is made up by Riesling x Sylvaner, Pinot gris, and the local speciality of the region Perle d'Alzey (a crossing of Riesling x Gewürztraminer x Sylvaner).
