Vines cultivated
The wine-growers of the Valais love their vines. That is why many different varieties are cultivated there.

There are currently 29 varietes of white vine and 18 varieties of red one.

One of the peculiarities about the vineyards of the Valais is the variety of vines to be found there.

Despite of this, there are 4 vines that dominate and account for about 90% of the production: the Chasselas used to produce Fendant; the Rhin or Sylvaner used to produce Johannisberg; the Gamay; the Pinot Noir

Apart from these 4 varieties, there are many others that are cultivated in the Valais - some in very small quantities. This diversity is what attracts wine-lovers.
