Varieties of white vines

The vine seems to have been introduced into Switzerland at the beginning of the century by a Geneva based wine-grower who cultivated it at first under the name of "Plant du Rhin" before the true identity of the vine was established. In Geneva, the Aligoté developed to become a real speciality. This vine is also found in the cantons of Vaud and Valais. The results presented come from earlier trials in which the number of bunches was not adjusted. A new trial, including some clones, has just started at Changins. The wine is dry, neutral, lively-to consume young.
