| This is the key white vine among the vine stocks of French-speaking Switzerland. Its neutral, fruity, floral wine caters to the taste of the vast majority of our consumers and their habit of drinking white wine, as often as not, between meals. Although it is fine and slips down easily when obtained in good conditions, the wine of the Chasselas can become heavy if it lacks acidity or, on the contrary, remain herbaceous and vulgar if over-produced or produced in an unfavourable climate. The production of table grapes, which has been possible in some years in our Chasselas vineyards, is dictated by economic considerations. The origin of this vine is presumed to be Bourgogne or Switzerland. In the French-speaking part of Switzerland since the XIIe century, its wine is called Fendant. |
