  Pinot gris

This is a vine well known for the high sugar content of its musts and its tendency to over-mature in dry climates. This characteristic explains certain synonyms for Pinot gris that are reminiscent of typical sweet wines: Malvoisie (Valais), Tokay (Alsace). It is a vine of some note in the Valais and can be found in most other Swiss vineyards. The quality of the wine depends to a large extent on the volume of the harvest and the degree of maturity achieved. A grape poor in colour, an overloaded stock and excessive vigour still rsult in rich musts, but rather ordinary wines. Mentioned in 1798 by the Citizen Reymondin.
