Varieties of white vines

This is a very old Valaisan vine. The Amigne is found in a restricted area, practically limited to the hillside of Vétroz. Trials contucted elsewehre in Switzerland have not encouraged the spread of this rather tardy vine. However, in its preferred habitat, the Amigne produces some original wines with little bouquet but characterised by their strength and their generosity. The tanny touch that can be found in some Amigne wines is often due to an important "millerandage" of the grapes. This vine may be of Roman origin. It was seen for the first time at the wine exhibition i Geneva in 1878.
