Varieties of red vines

This vine is appreciated for its regular fertility and for the lively and pleasant character of its wines. Many types of Gamay are known. The local selections (Caudoz, Saint-Foix) propagated in French-speaking Switzerland since 1950, and the French selsctions imported a little later, have been gradually giving way to the clonal selections more recently obtained in Switzerland and France. There are also some Gamays with red juice whose must is more acid and rougher than that of the Gamay with white juice. Their cultivation is only of local interest. It is very generous. Its production must be carefully contolled if good quality wines are to be obtained.
