This vine, together with the Garanoir, has been selected from among the numerous descendants of a crossing of Gamay with Reichensteiner. It matures at the same time as the Pinot Noir and has a production potential close to that of the fertile clones of the Pinot Noir. Its exceptional resistance to grey grape rot makes it especially useful in the vineyards frequently affected by this parasite. The grapes can be left on the stock until they are completely mature. The Gamaret provides colourful and structured red wines capable of ageing rather well. They sometimes have a spicy flavour. The features of the Gamaret make it especially interesting when blended with Pinot Noir and Gamay; it also goes well with Garanoir.
