Varieties of red vines

In the Valais, this variety has found the soil and climatic conditions that allow it to really express its qualities. It is, however, a belated maturer and must absolutely be reserved for the areas best exposed to the sun. It produces sufficiently when dressed short; if it is dressed long, the yield has to be controlled by culling in order to produce a quality wine with a good ageing potential. This vine should not be permitted to exceed 1 kg/m², and a sugar content in excess of 90º Oe should be sought.
