The vineyards and their regions
With 390 ha of cultivated hectares, the canton of Aargau is the third viticultural canton of Eastern Switzerland. There is a large variety of vines. The Riesling x Sylvaner is more or less the same in all the vineyards, however the other vines cultivated - and particularly the Pinot Noir - present wide differences depending on the region of the canton in which they are grown.
The vineyards lie in a northern zone where the climate is not the best for vines growing. Nevertheless, all vines are located in the most favourable regions of the canton. In Winter and Spring the vineyards are sometimes exposed to frost.
The soils of the vineyards are mostly lime-stone. There are also some soils of moraine origin situated on old riverbeds that have a sandy subsoil.
